Message 28872 - Posted: 21 May 2007, 23:37:50 UTC

My project had 2 tasks running but I noticed one had stopped. I checked the messages and found:

21/05/2007 20:58:25|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request: To send trickle-up message
21/05/2007 20:58:25|climateprediction.net|(not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks)
21/05/2007 20:58:40|climateprediction.net|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509]
21/05/2007 20:58:40|climateprediction.net|You used the wrong URL for this project
21/05/2007 20:58:40|climateprediction.net|The correct URL is http://climateprediction.net/
21/05/2007 20:58:40|climateprediction.net|Using the wrong URL can cause problems in some cases.
21/05/2007 20:58:40|climateprediction.net|When convenient, detach this project, then reattach to http://climateprediction.net/
22/05/2007 00:23:18|climateprediction.net|Resetting project
22/05/2007 00:23:19|climateprediction.net|Detaching from project
22/05/2007 00:23:28|climateprediction.net|Starting
22/05/2007 00:23:28|climateprediction.net|Deferring communication for 1 min 0 sec
22/05/2007 00:23:28|climateprediction.net|Reason: Unrecoverable error for result (No main program specified)

How do I reattach to this project with the correct URL? Thanks Peter

Chances are that you used \"www.\" in the URL when attaching. Attach with the URL precisely a noted in the Messages you posted, fifth line. (I don\'t use the final \"/\".)

I\'m a bit bothered by the line in Peter\'s messages that says \"Resetting project\". Does this mean he pressed the Reset button? Because, if so, presumably he\'s lost his model(s)? :-(

Note the next line in Peter\'s post. Note the Thread topic.
Yes, reset and/or detach eliminates whatever work was in process.

Thanks for your replies. It appears that I did lose the model that I was running, but fortunately I had only been running it for less than 24 hours. I have now reattached but obviously it is to a different model. However, two points should be noted.

1) When I joined climateprediction.net and installed the software, part of the installation process stated that I could copy and paste the URL from my browser, which is what I did. Clearly, if that isn\'t correct then it should be removed from the installation instructions.

2) I simply followed the instructions in the message, \'When convenient, detach this project, then reattach to http://climateprediction.net/\'. Being new to the project I had no idea of the implications of this action.

Looking at the beginning of the message list I found:

21/05/2007 11:32:25|climateprediction.net|URL: http://www.climateprediction.net/; Computer ID: 672983; location: (none); project prefs: default
21/05/2007 11:32:25||No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults
21/05/2007 11:34:35|climateprediction.net|Restarting task hadcm3inct_cntl_1920_160_25871077_2 using hadcm3i version 540
21/05/2007 11:34:37|climateprediction.net|Restarting task hadcm3inct_cmog_1920_160_05890149_4 using hadcm3i version 540
21/05/2007 20:35:09|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request: To send trickle-up message
21/05/2007 20:35:09|climateprediction.net|(not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks)
21/05/2007 20:35:14|climateprediction.net|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509]

where it had previously accepted the \'wrong\' URL and appeared to continue without error. Maybe someone should have a look at that. My new project has been running for over 4 hours now so we\'ll have to see how that gets on.

The version of the Boinc manager in testing (5.9) is supposed to fix this problem of attaching to the wrong URL (I think it gives you a list of projects to select from, rather than having you type in a URL). I haven\'t tried it, and because it\'s a test version, there are plenty of other bugs in it.
