Set my cpu usage to 50% and then to 25% from the defalt 100%. When I changed to settings to 25% they never updated and my cpu is still being used at 100%.

On other BOINC projects, there\'s a note \"Enforced by versions 5.6 and greater\" alongside this setting. I can\'t tell which version of BOINC you\'re running, but if you downloaded the \'recommended\' one, it\'ll be 5.4.11 - which doesn\'t yet have this feature.

If you feel you need it (often a good idea for laptops with limited/marginal cooling), go to the main BOINC download page and click on the link for \'All versions\' (or click here).

The latest test version 5.8.1 is flagged as \'potentially unstable\', but I haven\'t heard of any problems with it so far. It has the feature you\'re looking for.

Also, you need to understand that when you say 50%, the software will run at 100% for 1 second, then stop for 1 second. So you will not see it doing 50%.

I am using it on a laptop that was having a little heat issue, and I set it at 90%, and now it gets more RAC than at 100%. So the 1 second per 10 that it stops is cooling it just enough to make a difference.

It\'s only worth selecting the option if you have overheating problems - if you don\'t, then it could be putting your CPU under unnecessary thermal stress (i.e., for a desktop system which has adequate cooling, the cycle of heating, cooling, heating, cooling, ... etc is worse for the CPU than simply staying at a stable temperature).
