Has any one had conflicts with anti virus software.

I am using Sophos and for the second time the program has crashed.
The Climate Prediction error is that it can\'t write to the disk, but there is also a message from the anti virus saying,

    \"Virus Virogen-PinWorm detected in:
    \"C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\projects\\www.climateprediction.net\\hadcm3lbm_9y45_05233384\\dataout\\yafbg.aswap\"

This totally loses, or \"locks\" the results so far and it starts again from 1920.

Both times this has happened when it got to late thirties or early forties.

Has anyone got a work around otherwise I\'ll never complete a run.

    Trevor

This has been reported several times.
The Sophos program thinks that one of the data files contains a \"pinwheel\" virus, and deletes it. This casuses the program to crash, when it can\'t find the file.

It\'s a false positive, as the file in question is just a data file.

      There two cures:
      1) use a different virus checker
      2) exclude the entire BOINC folder from checking.

Norton is another program that causes problems, but by locking files before checking them. When this \'locking\' co-incides with the program trying to access the file, it crashes. Same cure.

If you could also report this to the Sophos help desk as a false positive, it may be handy.

Although please note that they\'ve been ignoring reports for months (poss. March?), so they\'re aware of the issue and can\'t be bothered to do anything about it.

I just reported this same issue to Sophos - they were quite responsive their response is below:

Thank you for your email. The file that you sent to us for analysis is detected as Virogen-Pinworm, although the file itself appears to be free from malicious content. This is a false positive that will be corrected in the 4.10 data release.

Thanks for passing on their message.
Up until now, it seemed that they were ignoring all reports.
I, in turn will post a link on the php boards pointing to here, so that those who only visit that board will know.
